Christine Hancock

I would like to introduce myself, Christine Hancock, to you. Ever since I was a little girl, I've always known that I wanted to be a school teacher.

When I would come home from elementary school, I would teach my two younger sisters who were not old enough to attend school, in a classroom that I created in the basement of our home. I taught them the basics - reading, math, and writing.

When I graduated from high school, I attended The University of Akron - Wayne College and received my Associate of Science Degree. I then continued my dream of becoming a teacher and attended Ashland University where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I took extra classes to be certified to teach kindergarten and preschool along with Reading Specialist (K-12). Later, I went back to Ashland University and received my Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

Before coming to St. Bernard School, I taught preschool for a few years. Then I had a great opportunity to come to New Washington and I began my teaching career at St. Bernard School by teaching the fourth grade. There were three nuns at the school when I started and they helped mentor me to be a great teacher. Later, I moved to the North Auburn School to teach the first grade. This is when I realized my heart was with teaching the younger students. For a couple of years, while at the North Auburn School, I also taught the second grade along with the first grade. At this time, I am the first grade teacher at St. Bernard School.

While I was at college, I met a person who would later become my husband. We were married at St. Bernard Church while I was teaching at the school,. Many of the school children were involved in our wedding - some sang in the choir while others had readings. For me it was the best of both worlds - a career and a new life both starting at St. Bernard. My husband and I live in the country between New Washington and Willard and we have one son.

I am looking forward to many more wonderful years teaching the students of St Bernard School.
