Dear St. Bernard Families,
Our testing is well underway. The time this newsletter posts, all classes will have taken the NWEA MAP Reading Assessment. We will use these scores to fine tune our instruction. We will also work with the children to make learning goals to focus their person academic achievement. The schedule is still attached.
*Surplus Garden Harvest* – If you have surplus from your garden, please send that into school Monday or Tuesday. We will be taking it to the Food Pantry.
Safety Drill – We conducted our first safety drill this past Tuesday. We would like to thank Officer Schick for his assistance. We are required to conduct three of these drills per school year. The students did a wonderful job.
St. John’s Preschool – The TLC Preschool Annual Cookie Dough, Gourmet Popcorn and Cake Sale will run fromSeptember 7 thru September 21. This fund raiser will help in keeping their tuition cost down, funding supplies and replacing equipment for their TLC students. If you would like to place an order, please contact any TLC student or call Pam at419-492-2497.
D.A.R.E – Deputy Martin will be at our school on Friday mornings to instruct our children in the D.A.R.E. program. He will begin on September 23rd.
Behavioral Expectations – We are almost half way through the first quarter and the students should have settled into a routine. We expect that our students be respectful of their teachers, their peers but most importantly, themselves.
Grandparents Day – What a great turnout we had for Grandparents Day. I loved to see all of the visiting going on. Our students are very fortunate to have such supportive families. Thank you again for coming.
Latin – Latin will start for the Elementary students after testing. It did not make sense to overwhelm them with technology as testing was going on. As I looked at the curriculum, I am positive that they will not only enjoy the lessons, but will also acquire essential vocabulary.
After School Clubs – ***Clarification on Club Pick-up*** Club pick up will be from the breezeway doors. The teacher in charge of the club will release the students. Once all of the students are released I will walk them to the area between the breezeway and church for release to parents. Also, after discussing release times with the teachers, we will go back to the 4:00 release time.
Fleece Jackets – All of the jackets are in and will be embroidered at Sew Impressed next week. I really appreciate them working us into their schedule.
First Lego League Competition – Students that are interested will be involved in FLL building and programming competitions this Fall and Winter. If your child was interested, a permission slip went home for you to sign. This will be an AWESOME opportunity. Take a look at http://www.firstinspires.org/ FLL Jr involves kindergarten through 4th grade and the FLL team is 5th – 8th grade. The Junior challenge is called Creature Craze and the FLL challenge is Animal Allies. If you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call.
Peace to you and yours,
