Dear St. Bernard Families,

There was a small glitch in our testing schedule.  I have inserted the schedule into this newsletter.  We will be off and running next week.  We have accomplished a lot in these 4 short days.  All of the students have been assigned a Chromebook or iPad.  They are not able to take them home until they have completed required training.  They may work on the classes from home.  They have all been given log in information to Learning.com.  Beside the required courses, there are also courses on coding that will encourage some critical thinking while having fun.

Academic Expectations – We believe that our students are capable of great things.  We also believe that our job is to not only teach them but to challenge them.  Our expectations for homework are that it is done on time and to the best of their ability.  If they are unsure of a problem or question they should ask their teacher before leaving school or first thing in the morning.  Your child should not be having more than 60 – 90 minutes of homework.  At the very least they should be reading for 20 – 30 minutes.  All of the 3rd - 8th graders have been given an assignment book.  All of their assignment should be written in that book.  If your child is spending too much time on their work or they are struggling, Mrs. Penry and I are available throughout the day and afterschool.

Grandparents Day – We will be celebrating Grandparents Day on September 14th.  We invite all of our students’ grandparents to join us first for Mass at 8:30, then for refreshments and entertainment in the school cafeteria after Mass.

Latin – Latin has started for the Middle School class.  They are working on lessons online and, this past Wednesday, Father Eric taught them the Our Father in Latin.  This is going to be a wonderful experience for your child.

After School Clubs – Clubs have started and pictures are featured on our Facebook page, St. Bernard School, New Washington.  We ask that if your child signs up for a club that they attend the club unless they present the office with a note from a parent.  We are responsible for your child during that time and we do not want a child unaccounted for especially if the parent thinks that they are attending club that day.

Fleece Jackets –  Some of the fleece jackets came in Thursday.  They are being embroidered up town at Sew Impressed.  There is still time to add your child’s name to their jacket.  The name will appear on the right side of the jacket; the school’s name will be on the left.

Peace to you and yours,

Mary Obringer
