Dear St. Bernard Families,

We are a week into the 2nd Quarter, time sure does fly by.  Please remember to sign up for conferences so that we can share test results and other pertinent information about your child with you.  If you have questions when you are looking at your child’s report card, please jot them down so that they can be discussed.

I was pleasantly reminded what our school is about when a 3rd grader had to walk to her grandmother’s house.  Several students volunteered to make sure that she got there safely. Our school is more than just a school, it is a community.

Recycle - This is our LAST recycling obligation.  Another group dropped out and it was then decided that a permanent trailer may work better.  I would appreciate a lot of help that day. Recycling runs from 8:00 - 12:00. Let’s have a great turn out for our last one!

Pre-School - We appreciate the commitment and dedication that St. John’s Tender Loving Care Pre-school has shown in the education of the children of our community. Many of our students, including my own children, have attended pre-school there.  After Buckeye Central announced their plans for a pre-school, I spoke to St. John’s about their plans for next year. Their church leadership has decided to, after this school year and after over 30 years of service to our community, discontinue this program.  I am sure this was a very difficult decision. I spoke with Father George and we believe that the community needs a Christ-centered pre-school where children can learn and grow in a Christian community, like the one they had at St. John’s. I have contacted the Diocese and I will be meeting with the individuals that oversee the pre-schools in our diocese.  We want to offer each child an opportunity to develop in a safe, loving environment where they and their families will have numerous opportunities to be part of their child’s education and the community of New Washington.

Conferences - Please schedule your conferences on Option C.  If you are having trouble please contact me and I will schedule them for you.  The window will be open from the 21st of October to the 4th of November.

Project Bethlehem - We will be sponsoring elderly individuals that need a hand up.  We will publish a list of items needed, if you are able to contribute it will be much appreciated.  This is through Catholic Charities of Mansfield.

We are having trouble with some of our students getting their homework done.  Please look at their assignment book and, at the least, have them read for 20 minutes.

It is expected that each child should read or be read to each night.  Most students will have spelling words to study also. It seems to work well if a particular time is set aside to do homework each day.  So at the least, they should have reading and spelling. We appreciate your support.

Peace to you and yours,

Mary Obringer

Thank You
